LIZBETH BANDERAS - NORWOOD WOMEN'S WRESTLING STATE CHAMPION

The final match was shaping up to be a fight with a Senior from Fairfield pinning every girl in the tournament on her way to face Lizbeth in the championship. The two knew each other well with the Fairfield wrestler beating Lizbeth three separate times this year already, and most recently, last weekend at the District Finals.

The 1st period of the match saw no points and they headed to the 2nd tied 0-0. We then saw Lizbeth take the lead 4-2 heading into the 3rd and final period. The Fairfield wrestler gained two points to tie it up 4-4 with less than 30 seconds to go. The final few seconds had Lizbeth fight and earn a takedown for the 6-4 win and a State Championship!

Lizbeth Banderas finishes her High School Women’s Wrestling career with two state place finishes (2020 – 4th place; 2021 – State Champion). She is the first individual state champion since Chad Kincaid in 1996 (Track & Field) and fourth individual state champion in Norwood history. She follows Mike Marksbury (1973 Shot Put), Chad Kincaid (1995 Cross Country & 1996 3200m Track), as well as the 1936 Baseball team.

We are so proud of Lizbeth and everything she has done to reach the pinnacle of wrestling in Ohio! Information and details on our ceremony to honor her Championship will be released soon.

Congratulations Lizbeth!
