Dear Norwood Families and Staff, This afternoon, the Governor designated Hamilton County in the purple since we have been in the red with a star for almost two weeks. This is a different purple from last spring in that the Governor has promised not to shut down schools or businesses. The purple level is being driven by the hospitals/ICU beds and not the schools. The Governor suggested looking at local data, the number of cases in your schools, how your local plan is working out for students, and then make a local decision. Our district has been operating on a hybrid schedule since August 24th and while far from perfect, it has kept instruction and interaction with students and teachers going while not encountering too many issues. One of the promises our district had to make just last week, when signing up the staff for the vaccines with the Ohio Department of Health, is that there will be in-person instruction either part or full time to receive the early vaccine in Phase 1B. It would be unfortunate to have schools shut down, since staff are scheduled to receive the vaccine, which would put us at odds with the Governor and the Department of Health.
