Elementary Academics

The Norwood Innovation Lab is a mobile STEM unit that spends 13 weeks at each elementary school.  This space is used to explore solutions to problems with a focus on showing the importance of science and math in real world problems through using the engineering and design process.  Throughout all of the projects we have had a very intentional science and math focus in each grade level by following grade level standards.  Students are encouraged to be problem solvers and innovators while working in small groups to solve a variety of problems from building the most efficient windmill to coding robots to transport items through tough terrain.  Each grade level spends time learning about renewable energy resources and completed a project dealing with wind or solar power.  We even test how to land a weather station on the moon by following a variety of constraints and testing materials.
