It seems like just a few short days ago the 2011-12 school year was upon us. As with the start of each new year, our staff and students were eager with anticipation looking forward to being with colleagues and classmates once again in the classrooms, halls and playgrounds of Norwood City Schools.
The 2011-12 school year was a tremendous success. We began the year with the tremendous distinction of being rated by the Ohio Department of Education as an EXCELLENT school district for the first time in the 113 year history of the Norwood City School District! This designation is the testament to the hard work by our staff, students and parents on a daily basis. While we are so very proud of this lofty designation, we chose to focus not on the ranking we have earned but on the task at hand, the new school year. Our students worked diligently throughout the year in the classroom and in after school activities such as music, drama, fine arts, athletics and clubs. Our staff members worked with great passion to educate, support and mentor the future leaders of our community, the more than 2,200 children enrolled in our schools. Our community members supported countless activities and provided thousands of volunteer hours to assist both our staff members and our students. Their incredible support at many events helped create lasting memories for our children.
The culminating event of the school year was our graduation ceremony for the class of 2012 of Norwood High School. The achievements of the class of 2012 are a great representation of the high regard for education and work ethic instilled in our children by the families and community members of Norwood. On May 26, 2012, 118 seniors joined the proud ranks of over 113 years of Norwood High School graduates and alumni. The class of 2012 earned over $350,000 in scholarship money and over 81% of the members of the class of 2012 will be attending college, certification programs or serving in the Armed Forces. These graduates will continue to represent and carry on the legacy of so many who have gone before them, graduates of the greatest school district in Ohio, NORWOOD CITY SCHOOLS and as residents of the greatest city in Ohio, the City of NORWOOD!
Thank you to all of our students, parents, staff and community members for making the 2011-12 school a tremendous success. We look forward to an outstanding and memorable new school year.
