Williams Avenue Elementary School's May Rising Star Student is Scott Rains
The Williams Avenue Elementary student Rising Star for May is Scott Rains. Scott is a fourth grade student and has attended Williams Avenue Elementary since Kindergarten. His classroom teachers, Mrs. VanHook and Mrs. Booth feel Scott has a great attitude about school and takes his class work very seriously. If he struggles with an assignment, Scott will work through it until he is able to finish. He is a hard working student who always puts forth his best effort. Scott is always happy and smiling. Scott has a kind heart and cares about those around him. He is quick to share his materials and offers to help others. Mrs. Rugh looks forward to seeing Scott's smiling face and says she has never seen anyone work as hard as he does. Regardless of what Scott decides to do when he grows up, he will do well. Scott is one reason why Williams Elementary is Excellent with Distinction! Great job ! Way to go Scott !

Williams Avenue Elementary School's May Rising Staff Star is Mrs. Sarah Smith
Williams Avenue Elementary would like to recognize Sarah Smith, one of our third grade teachers. Sarah is a gifted and creative reading teacher. She consistently goes above and beyond to incorporate a multi-sensory environment in her classroom to engage all students. She has been a leader in the building implementing the Reading Street curriculum. She works well with other colleagues to design instruction that is tailored to individuals and small groups of students to improve their reading abilities. The third grade reading scores have shown significant gains throughout the school years. The great part about Mrs. Smith is that you don't realize that you are working so hard because she makes learning so engaging and fun.She has so much passion for her students and what she does. She is super organized and always prepared, being a great role model for her students. She is sensitive to her students emotional needs as well. She buys special lunches to eat with students when they are experiencing difficulty at home, brings in nail polish and hair care products for a student that is currently homeless and other acts of kindess that speaks volume of her and her character. She is highly respected throughout the building and the district and if you have a question about reading, she will know the answer or will find it for you. Congratulations Mrs. Smith, you are a strong part to what makes Williams Avenue Elementary Excellent with Distinction !

Williams Avenue Elementary School's May Rising Volunteer Star is Mr. Steve Sickinger
We would like to recognize Steve Sickinger for his time and outstanding contributions to our school. Mr. Sickinger is always a helping hand with staff and students. He works very hard as a member of the PTA and the Watch Dog program. The third grade students enjoy playing games with Mr. Sickinger when he volunteers his time as a Watch Dog. Mr. Sickinger also took the time out of his work schedule to attend a day long field trip to Sawyer Point and the Cincinnati Reds game. When one of our students wanted to go on that field trip and was unable to pay, Mr. Sickinger paid their way. When the PTA has the Kona Ice truck come to Williams, you will find Mr. Sickinger at the front of the line paying for kids that don't have the money and want a treat. Anytime the third grade, PTA or the building is in need, he is always available to help out. Thank you, Mr. Sickinger for being such a great role model to all the students. You are an example of why Williams Avenue Elementary is Excellent with Distinction! Congratulations !

Williams Avenue Elementary School's October Rising Volunteer Star is Mrs. Jeanne Sickinger
Williams Avenue Elementary proudly nominates Mrs. Jeanne Sickinger for our Rising Volunteer Star for October. Jeanne is an active parent that is always asking the question, "What can I do?" She helps monitor morning and afternoon drop-offs and pick-ups. When we say active, that is exactly what you get! Jeanne is the PTA Vice-President at Williams Avenue Elementary and is always asking, "Why can't we do more?" She often has ideas that help people think outside the box and is always available to put the elbow grease in where needed. She truly cares for all the students and staff in our school district and also is active with the Norwood Promise. If there is a need, ask Jeanne and if she doesn't have an answer, she will find it out or work on solving it. Mrs. Sickinger always wears a smile and is a true example of what a parent, volunteer, PTA member and a Rising Star is. She is part of what makes Williams Avenue Elementary School Excellent.
Congratulations Mrs. Sickinger !
