Norwood View Elementary School's May Rising Staff Star is Mrs. Casey Lasita

Norwood View is proud to present Casey Lasita as the Rising Star staff member for the month of May. Mrs. Lasita received her undergraduate degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph and her master's degree in Elementary Education from Ohio Dominican University. She is completing her seventh year at the View, the last three as a first grade teacher. Mrs. Lasita is beloved by all her students, their parents and other staff members. She works hard to build personal relationships with each of them. She is in constant communication with her students' parents regarding student progress, their academic or social needs and especially their successes. Her classroom is a model for instructional learning. She makes learning fun and sets very high standards for her students' achievement. Mrs. Lasita serves as a leader for our staff in many capacities. She is our unofficial social coordinator. She constantly recognizes staff members for numerous accomplishments and organizes various staff events including showers, birthday and retirement parties and special dinners throughout the school year. She is quick to share her teaching expertise with her colleagues and serves as a mentor for student teachers and new district employees.

Norwood View Elementary School's May Rising Volunteer Star is Emily Martini

It is an honor to nominate Emily Martini as the Norwood View Rising Star Volunteer for the month of May. Emily is a senior at Anderson High School and her mom is a teacher at Norwood View Elementary. Emily has been an immense help this year at Norwood View Elementary with the 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. Emily leaves school and travels to Norwood View on Tuesdays and Thursdays where she helps after school in Ms. Piening's Homework Hangout Club and in her mom's classroom as needed. Emily works with students who are struggling with their homework and coaches them through their assignments. She always comes in with a smile and is very easy to work with. The students love her and always ask if they can work with "Ms.Emily." Emily is a great role model of what a Champ should be at Norwood View and is always encouraging the students to reach their highest potential. She really inspires the students to work hard both while at Club and in the classroom to improve their math and reading skills.Emily is mature and responsible well beyond her years and a true asset to our school. We know Emily will excel next year as she pursues a degree in nursing at The Christ Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Thanks again Emily for all you have done for our students. Norwood View Elementary School's May Rising Student Star is Jeff Collins

We are happy to recommend Jeff Collins as May's Rising Star for Norwood View Elementary School. Jeff always has a smile on his face. His willingness to learn and help his peers is overwhelming and explains why he is one of the most popular students in the sixth grade. Jeff had a hard time picking his favorite subject, but said that math is especially fun because he readily understands math and enjoys figuring things out. He is dedicated and committed to his education and as a result Jeff has consistently earned honor roll. Jeff is sentimental about Norwood View because it is the only school he has attended. He said this year has been his best year yet. Outside of school, Jeff enjoys playing sports. He prefers playing outside with his friends, but while inside he enjoys playing video games. He would like to be a pro athlete or a doctor when he grows up. Jeff will certainly be an asset to Norwood Middle School! Way to go Jeff !

The dance will be held in the Norwood High School cafeteria and is open to all PK-6th grade girls in the city of Norwood and their dates (Father, Step-Father, Uncle, Grandfather, big brother, or other significant male).

EXCELLENT AGAIN!

The Ohio Department of Education has posted the final report card designations for all public schools in the state of Ohio.
For the second year in a row the Norwood City School District has been designated by O.D.E as EXCELLENT!
Williams Avenue Elementary became the first school in the history of the district to be designated as Excellent With Distinction! Over the last three years the staff and students have led the district to exponential growth in all areas of academic growth.
Congratulations and job well done to each and every staff member, student, parent and community member who have placed so much passion and effort into making our district a truly EXCELLENT school district.

A Future Food Network Star

Sixth Grade student, Alexus Watkins is well on her way to becoming a fabulous chef! During silent reading time Alexus was browsing through the many Food Network magazines in the classroom. She found a recipe on how to make a pencil shaped cake. She took it upon herself to write down the instructions on how to properly decorate the cake. See the results below.
